The Temperance Seven (requested re-up)

If you ever wondered what else producer George Martin was doing in the early 60's besides guiding the Beatles, he was also producing records by such novelty acts as the Temperance Seven. This record on the Music For Pleasure budget label is a compilation of songs from 1961 to 1963. They had big hits in the U.K. around this time with "Pasadena" and "You're Driving Me Crazy" featuring their affectionate tribute to those dance bands of the twenties and thirties they modeled themselves on. They were the forerunners of such novelty acts that were to follow like the Bonzo Dog Band and Bob Kerr's Whoopee Band.
The original band broke up in the late 60's but a new personel, sometimes augumented by past members are still active to this day.

Yay, thanks so much! I have three albums the Temperance Seven are on--the first US release, just called 'The Temperance Seven'. a 'Best of' CD, and something called 'By Jingo, It's British Rubbish'. I can upload any of them for you if you like.

Thanks for the info. Paul. Nice of you to drop by considering how busy you are with Ukulele's For Peace tour etc. I only have two tracks by the Alberts but presume they came from this compilation. Can't remember what though. I'm intrigued to know ofcourse. They did the backing for lots of Goons songs I think?

Yes, 'By Jingo' has several tracks by the Alberts. They are the hardest band of all to find, I've discovered. Stupidly I thought they were the same as 'Albert y los Trios Paranoias'--but after I bought their retrospective CD, I discovered they totally were not! Duh!

Anyway, I'll upload my CD of By Jingo for you soon (it has no skips) on Rapidshare and put the link up in this thread. It has some cute stuff like the original version of 'All By Yourself in the Moonlight' which Roger Ruskin Speare covered on his second album, which I also have somewhere and need to digitize for you nice people.

Thanks so much also for the Kenneth Williams! As soon as I find the time I want to send you an mp3 of a tune I *think* is Kenneth Williams, but I need an expert's opinion on. Thanks again!

Thanks hope- I'm certainly looking forward to hearing those Alberts tracks as I'm sure a lot of other people are!

Well duh again--'All By Yourself in the Moonlight' isn't on By Jingo at all; it's on 'Songs the Bonzos Taught Us'. So I've uploaded both CDs for you guys:

http://www.sendspace.com/file/cieyua

The links are good for whatever Sendspace allows. Ever thought of using Rapidshare instead, BTW? Their links stay active way longer.

Many thanks for these Hope! I find Send Space pretty adequate for my uses and nobody has complained so far over the last 3 years or however long its been since I started using them. I've had a lot of trouble with Rapidshare so reluctant to use them. I'm just set in my ways I guess! Anyway, if a link goes it can always be mended if people ask nicely. I think it makes for better communication.

"By Jingo" downloaded fine but the Songs the Bonzos Taught Us seems to be too large a file for Send Space to cope with and gets stuck. Maybe if it was in two halves?

Hope Muntz said...

Rats. See? Sendspace sucks! ;)I'll have to re-compress the file and re-up it to Rapidshare then. They're different than they used to be, BTW--much more reliable and faster now that they're no longer .de.

Wastedpapiers said...

Maybe you are right. But I think even Rapidshare would choke on the 135MB or whatever it was! :)

Thanks for having another go. Much appreciated.

Hope Muntz said...

Yeah, but Rapidshare states its limits correctly ;)

OK. here you go:

I always get to the party too late. I have an old, well-worn cassette of By Jingo and was hoping to get a better copy. This appears to be the only blog with it and I missed it.

Poo.

I will try and upload again if I get a chance.

If you do I will sing your praises to the sky. Though what good that will do I'm not sure. Other than getting me one step closer to being locked up.
